battle transitions are an important part of mainstream RPGs. transitions could be in the battle editor (for custom ones in different fights) and use 2D images in sequence. they would have 2 parts, the transition intro (the part that plays when you, let's say, touch an overworld enemy, starting a fight.) and the transition outro (plays right after the intro, let's say covers the screen, final frame of the intro can stay on-screen until the fight is loaded, and then the outro will play, let's say, shrinking (or something) or moving out of frame, as the battle starts.)
